First Directing Gig

I directed my first launch film for my brother’s startup in Portugal. Two days, one surfer, two cameramen, and zero control over anything because we were entirely at the mercy of the waves and weather.

It was tricky. The ocean doesn’t care about your shot list. We needed clean surf, light wind, and just the right tide, and somehow, on day two, we got exactly what we needed including a massive storm, just like we’d written in the script. It felt like the weather read our call sheet.

Directing is basically editing with sunburn and sand in your shoes, but we caught some magic, and I’d do it again.
